Dereliction in Rome

The original photograph was taken in the ruins of ancient Rome and the image was created using a combination of photography, IT and drawing. I have been experimenting recently with the links between drawing and photography and am producing a series of images which explore the very traditional art techniques and the more innovative techniques of digital imaging. In this piece, I am particularly interested in surface and colour.

2009

Mixed media [photography; digital manipulation; pencil crayon on pastel paper]

That’s superb. A really interesting use of different media to make a striking image. It has a kind of rustic, aged look, but in a modern, stylised way.

Nice to see you on here Paul. I look forward to seeing more of your work in the mix and reading snippets of what went into it. This is truly an interesting combination of old and new.

Amazing image. I love the effect of this multi-media approach, and would be very interested in a set of progress images, to see how the final piece was arrived at.

Thanks very much for the comments.

I’m in the process of creating a website which will go some way to explain how and why I produce this work. I’m also an active member of both Exmouth Photo Group and the Photo Group so you would be able to see more of my work on the competition nights.
